PHASE 1 of Inverness Creative Academy was completed in November 2018. This phase brought the 1913 Arts and Science Extension back into use as the ‘artist and makers’ wing of our project. The first tenants moved into their studios in December 2018. Phase 1 was supported by: Highlands and Islands Enterprise, The Highland Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, The Scottish Government, Inverness City Heritage Trust, The Architectural Heritage Fund and McCarthy and Stone.
PHASE 2 requires capital investment of £3.6m for repair and general improvement works to bring the buildings into a condition and standard to meet the aims of the project and provide the spaces required.
This phase will restore the 1895 Academy building, one of the finest listed buildings in Inverness, completing the ‘creative industries’ wing of the project and restoring the grand assembly hall into an inspiring public space. This stage will complete Wasps’ vision to deliver a vibrant creative destination to serve the whole of the Highlands.
Fundraising in currently underway and we aim to deliver phase 2 by Spring 2020.
You can help!
Wasps’ revenue covers our core costs and enables us to provide artists and makers with workspaces at rents which they can afford. However, we are dependent on fundings and donations to enable all of our capital developments to happen. Donations will help us to complete Phase 2, support creative talent in the Highlands and invest in the future of Inverness’ built heritage and creative economy.
If you would like to discuss making a donation or business sponsorship in more details please contact Claire English, Wasps Funding and Partnerships Manager on 0141 553 5890 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. A number of options for crediting your donation within the development can be considered.
